About North Georgia and Surrounding Areas:

This property is located in Habersham County GA.  It is situated just outside of the city of Clarkesville on Highway 115. Clarkesville and the surrounding cities make up an area that is seasonally traveled by tourist coming up from South GA, FL, and AL to see the fall colors.  The major routes of tourism are northern travel from I-985/365 up through the cities of Cornelia, Clarkesville, Helen, Nacoochee Valley, Clevelend, and on up through Blairsville, Hiawassee and Clayton. The tourist season starts in early summer with the peak just before and during fall color change.  These cities and surrounding areas make up the beginnings of the North GA Appalachian Mountains, which are a part of the Great Smokey National Park System and the Blue Ridge Mountains Parkway.

Clarkesville was added to the national registry in the early 1980’s as the #1 retirement community in the United States and later #2 nicest place in America to retire. Average temperatures in the summer range from 75-85 degrees and winter (Dec-March) temps average 30-40 degrees, with and overall yearly average temp of 74 degrees. Clarkesville contains the city seat for Habersham County.

Cornelia is located 12 miles south of Clarkesville and is one of the first points that an estimated 4.2 million tourists enter from a straight shot from Atlanta.  From downtown Atlanta, it is 66 miles to Cornelia on I-85, which becomes I-985. Cornelia has quickly become a haven for retreat from the urban sprawl of Atlanta, with many people living in Cornelia and making the daily commute to work in Atlanta. Cornelia has a population of 35,000 and is bounded by numerous commercial centers and businesses.  To give an idea of the population density of this city and the number of people that big businesses market to, a 24 hour Super Wal-mart and a 24 hour Super K-mart are just a few of the businesses found within Cornelia.

Toccoa, just to the east of Cornelia is similar containing the same businesses and about the same size and population as Cornelia.

Helen, Ga is located 14 miles west of Clarkesville and is the third most visited city in the state.  Helen is a highly visited city with tourism being its number one income. It is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, is a re-creation of an alpine village complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers.  This Northeast Georgia village has a rich history dating back to the Cherokee Indians and their burial mounds, also early settlers who mined for gold and cut virgin timber. Now Helen celebrates its thirtieth year as a mountain community with a touch of Bavaria.  Helen has more than 200 specialty and import shops, restaurants and over 1100 quality rooms are located in Helen.  Outside of town, over 1000 cabins and chalets are available with cozy fireplaces in secluded settings.
